WooCommerce loyalty points, in Klaviyo, as seven separate triggers

kind loyalty sends seven distinct Klaviyo metrics: Points Earned, Points Redeemed, Points Revoked, Points Expired, Reward Unlocked, Points Milestone, and Program Joined. Each appears as its own flow trigger, so you build a flow by selecting the metric, with no trigger splits or property filters.

Events

The seven metrics, and what each one is for

MetricFires whenWhat it is good for
Points EarnedAn order completes and points are credited.Confirm the balance right after a purchase, while the order is still on their mind.
Points RedeemedA customer converts points into a coupon.Send the coupon code and its restrictions, then remind them before it expires.
Points RevokedAn order is refunded and the points it earned are taken back.Explain the adjustment before the customer notices it themselves and writes in.
Points ExpiredPoints pass their expiry date and leave the balance.Close the loop on a lapse, or trigger a win-back for customers who let a balance go.
Reward UnlockedA balance first reaches a redeemable reward. The highest-intent moment in the program: they have something to spend, right now.
Points MilestoneA balance crosses a threshold you configure.Nudge customers who are close to a reward but not there yet.
Program JoinedA customer joins the loyalty program.Welcome sequence, explain the earn rate, deliver the signup bonus.
Why it matters

One versatile event moves the work into every flow you build

The single event approach

One metric, say Points Updated, carrying a reason property. Every flow you build starts with a trigger split on that property, then a filter. Six flows means six filters to write and six chances to get one wrong, quietly, in a way that only shows up when a customer receives the wrong email.

Seven distinct metrics

The trigger is the filter. Selecting Points Redeemed means the flow can only ever run on a redemption. There is no property to misspell and no split to maintain, and a marketer who has never seen your data model can build the flow correctly on the first try.

Profile properties

Six properties, updated on every ledger entry

Events drive flows. Properties drive segments. These six sit on the Klaviyo profile and stay current without a manual sync.

Points Balance
Current redeemable balance, updated on every ledger entry.
Lifetime Points
Everything ever earned, never decreases. Useful for segmenting your best customers.
Points Expiring Soon
Points scheduled to expire inside the coming window.
Next Reward At
Points still needed to unlock the next reward.
Last Activity Date
The date the rolling expiry clock counts from.
Loyalty Member
Whether the profile has joined the program. Segment members against non-members.
Flow recipes

Three flows worth building first

Points about to expire

Bring back a customer who has a balance and has gone quiet.

Points Expired is the wrong trigger here. Build the segment on Points Expiring Soon.

  1. Create a segment: Points Expiring Soon is greater than 0 AND Points Balance is at least your smallest reward threshold.
  2. Build a flow triggered on that segment being entered.
  3. Email one: the balance, what it converts to, and the expiry date. Nothing else.
  4. Wait four days, then a conditional split on Points Redeemed since flow start.
  5. Email two goes only to those who have not redeemed.

First reward unlocked

Convert the highest-intent moment in the whole program.

Metric: Reward Unlocked.

  1. Trigger the flow on Reward Unlocked. No trigger split, no property filter.
  2. Add a flow filter so it only sends once, on the first unlock.
  3. Email immediately: what they unlocked and the one link that redeems it.
  4. Wait three days, conditional split on Points Redeemed.
  5. Remind the ones who have not, then exit.

Welcome and earn rate

Set expectations while the customer is paying attention.

Metric: Program Joined.

  1. Trigger on Program Joined.
  2. Email one: their signup bonus, the earn rate in plain numbers, where the widget lives in their account.
  3. Wait seven days, conditional split on Points Earned since flow start.
  4. For those who have not ordered, email two shows how close the first reward is, pulling Next Reward At from the profile.
Bonus

Points segments become Meta and Google audiences

Klaviyo segments sync natively into Meta and Google Ads audiences, and the points properties are already on the profile. That means an audience of people who have enough points for a 20 EUR voucher, with a return and redeem call to action. It needs no extra development on our side or yours: it works today.

The constraints, stated honestly

  • Meta requires at least 100 profiles in a segment before it will build an audience.
  • Only profiles matched to an existing Meta or Google account sync, so the audience is always smaller than the segment.
  • Google requires Customer Match eligibility on your ad account.
FAQ

Klaviyo and WooCommerce, answered

How do I trigger a Klaviyo flow when loyalty points expire?

kind loyalty sends Points Expired as its own Klaviyo metric, so you create a flow, choose Points Expired as the trigger, and start writing. To warn customers before it happens, build a segment on the Points Expiring Soon profile property instead and trigger the flow on segment entry.

What is the difference between seven events and one event with a reason property?

With one versatile event, every flow starts with a trigger split and a property filter, and a mistake in that filter sends the wrong email to the wrong people silently. With seven distinct metrics, the trigger is the filter. You pick Points Redeemed and the flow can only ever run on a redemption.

Which profile properties does kind loyalty write to Klaviyo?

Six: Points Balance, Lifetime Points, Points Expiring Soon, Next Reward At, Last Activity Date, and Loyalty Member. They update on every ledger entry, so segments built on them stay current without a manual sync.

Can I use loyalty points to target Meta and Google ads?

Yes. Klaviyo segments built on the points profile properties sync natively into Meta and Google Ads audiences, so you can target people who already have enough points for a voucher. Meta requires at least 100 profiles in a segment, only profiles matched to an existing ad account sync, and Google requires Customer Match eligibility.

Does this work with WooCommerce or only Shopify?

WooCommerce only, for now. The platforms that dominate Klaviyo loyalty content serve Shopify, and the tools that serve WooCommerce do not treat Klaviyo seriously. kind loyalty is built for the intersection.

Do the events still fire if my WordPress cron is broken?

Yes. Event delivery to Klaviyo runs on our infrastructure, not on WP-Cron. The plugin only forwards the order. Everything after that, including scheduled work like expiry, executes on our servers whether or not anyone is visiting your site.
